CEBU City––Some P5 million worth of property went up in smoke when a fire hit the warehouse of a chain of supermarkets in Cebu City last Good Friday, fire officials said.
The fire, tapped by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) at 5:52 in the morning, razed the warehouse of La Nueva Supermarket at the corner of Magallanes and F. Gonzales Streets in Barangay Sto. Nino, Cebu City.
Aside from burning down the structure owned by Martina and Julian Uy, the fire also damaged the second floor ceiling of nearby Kong Hen Trading.
Senior fire officer 1 Nilo Daculan, fire investigator, said they are still verifying the cause of the 37-minute fire, which he said destroyed an estimated P5 million in properties.
Daculan said no one was around when it broke out.
He said they had to destroy the padlock of the metal accordion door to gain access to the warehouse.
The fire was the second incident to hit the city within the week.
Last Tuesday, fire also razed at least 30 houses in the neighboring barangays of Sta. Cruz and San Antonio, destroying at least P12.5 million in properties. Philippine News Agency
